What is the simplest and shortest book on this list?

The Picture of Dorian Gray, by far. It's only 100 or so pages, and it has a very fascinating story. It's super easy to read, in contrast to many of those books on your list. Dorian is a most intriguing character. This is one of my all-time favorites!
