Novels that have a sort of manga storyline feel to it? Even eccentric characters?

I usually just read whatever I feel like (I’m not too picky), from memoirs of a geisha to the Charlie Chaplin autobiography. But recently I got into manga, because I like the crazy plots (like inuyasha, ranma, fruits basket and even the more simple ones like Paradise Kiss), and the eccentric characters. I read a lot of novels but do not come across story lines like manga with those really crazy characters (like Inuyasha, a half demon, or Ranma, male/woman), anyone know of any good books that are like this?
